It's the halfway point in the Live Project...and things have got pretty crazy!
At this point, I assumed I'd be stressed out of my mind, buried under a pile of consent papers and interview materials while I attempted to juggle final year with my mad life in Brighton. That's not entirely how things have planned out.
The week that our mid-project presentations were due Corona-gate struck! Uni was cancelled, the pubs shut & lockdown commenced.
Doing a final year project without being able to physically go to uni is a bit of a strange one. Luckily, as I am acting as a research consultant, and am working with an Army Reserve Unit that will continue to work, I was able to carry on with my original project idea.
However, the Corona crisis did mean that certain parts of my brief needed to change. For example, I originally planned to do several face-to-face interviews, which with the social distancing was not going to be possible anymore.
Therefore, over the past couple of weeks I have been focusing my efforts on creating a more in-depth questionnaire instead, which can be filled out by participants online. At least lockdown will hopefully mean people have nothing better to do than to fill out my survey!
It has also been a challenge working from home. Without a change of environment and as much of a routine, it has been proving hard to find the motivation to fully focus on cracking on with the Live Project. However, after a couple of weeks it is starting to become the new norm, and with the help of a daily beach walk, lots of snacks and a few bottles of gin, the research project has started to come along very nicely!
With content analysis collected, ethics forms filled out and the questionnaire designed, its time to start getting some results!
(Because everyones bored enough of seeing pictures of work & the indoors, enjoy a social distancing picture of the beach instead!)
